Location: New York, NY
A Park Avenue one-bedroom penthouse, overlooking Central Park, underwent gut renovation that included the flexibility to create a guest bedroom. The overall existing floor plan was geometrically awkward with no sense of appropriate proportion. Flow throughout the space was developed by raising and opening the ceiling at the transition to each room, beginning with the lowest point at the formal entrance. A window was added to create a focal point upon entering the penthouse, a spectacular view of Central Park. The addition of a sliding steel and glass pocket door between the living room and study provides the flexibility desired for a guest bedroom. Limestone floors were installed throughout the common space; wool Berber carpet lines the master bedroom. The kitchen cabinets were furnished with a sycamore silver-gray stain. The finishes and detailing are a minimalist modern aesthetic.
